The Sidney Prize is an acclaimed award that has been created to acknowledge individuals who strive hard towards realizing their dreams. It has become a worldwide symbol of prestige, and winners receive significant amounts that they can use to fund future plans or promote science – especially biology and medicine – among the general public. The National Association of Scholars’ Sidney Hook Memorial Award honors distinguished scholarship, undergraduate teaching, and leadership in the cause of liberal arts education. This award is the highest the Society can confer, and recipients are honored at the Association’s Triennial Council Meeting. There will be a call for nominations a year and a half prior to each Triennial Council meeting in the Key Reporter, the General Newsletter, and on social media. Named in honor of Sidney Hook, an American philosopher and Phi Beta Kappa member, the award recognizes a single scholar who has achieved national distinction in each of these endeavors. The winner is chosen by the National Association of Scholars’ Executive Committee and will be announced a month or so before each Triennial Council in the Key Reporter, the General Newsletter, the website, and social media. Overland magazine and the Malcolm Robertson Foundation host The Neilma Sydney Short Story Prize annually, open to all Australian authors and writers at any stage of their careers. The first-place author will receive $5000 prize money and publication online and in Overland, and two runner-up stories will be awarded $750 each. The judges are looking for stories loosely themed around travel that tell us something more than simply about places or landscapes. The City of Sydney’s Lord Mayor Clover Moore has congratulated Nazanin Boniadi on winning the 2018 Sydney Peace Prize. The City’s Lord Mayor says the prize is well deserved for Nazanin’s work in “turning outrage into action,” and that she is an example to everyone of the power of non-violent resistance. The City of Sydney is proud to support this year’s winners and their outstanding contributions.
