hongkong prize The Hong Kong Science Museum has launched the 2024 Shaw Prize Exhibition “The Future of Science” to introduce this year’s Shaw Laureates and their outstanding contributions in a more comprehensive manner. The exhibition guides visitors to discover the research journey of these elite scientists, and provides accessible scientific knowledge related to their fields of interest. HK Prize is a non-governmental merit-based award organised by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation. It aims to reward scientists, researchers or their institutions in Hong Kong (including those from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area) for their significant breakthroughs and transformative effects of scientific research and technological innovation, regardless of their race, nationality, gender or religious beliefs. In the past, HK Prize has awarded more than 200 projects with total funding of more than HK$10 million. This year, a record-breaking number of applications have been received. The selection will be based on the scientific merit of the application and the potential of its impact, with special consideration for the applications that contribute to addressing social and economic challenges of our city. Besides the cash prize, all the winners will receive an engraved medal and a certificate. In addition, all finalists of the competition will be given an opportunity to present their research work at an international symposium. In order to encourage more local runners to participate in the marathon, organisers have increased the prize money of the 25th Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon. Permanent Hong Kong residents who cross the finish line within 3 hours (men) or 3 hours 30 minutes (women) will receive a special incentive award of HK$10,000, which is a new record in the event’s history. The Xplorer Prize is supported by Tencent Foundation to promote the research of unexplored fields in advanced interdisciplinary studies among young scientists in Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China. Prof. FAN Zhiyong, Professor of Electronic & Computer Engineering and Chemical & Biological Engineering, has been awarded the Xplorer Prize in the field of advanced interdisciplinary study, one of only two from Hong Kong. This is the third time he has won this prestigious award. The ceremony was attended by representatives of The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, governmental agencies and enterprises and other prominent guests.
