Youth ages 14 to 17 who are homeless generally find us via referrals from the National Runaway Switchboard, other youth crisis agencies, or the police. Bronzeville Youth Shelter, a dedicated unit within Belfort House, provides short-term, safe shelter and respite care. It also provides a variety of personal and social supports. The main goal of Bronzeville Youth Shelter is reuniting youth with their families.
Youth residing here more than two days receive an in-depth assessment, plus individualized counseling and referrals for education, psychiatric evaluation, substance abuse programs, and other community services. Youth who are 17 or older who cannot be reunited with family are eligible to transition to Belfort House.
